The short version
Be kind, be inclusive, and respect people’s boundaries and their work. Harassment of any kind isn’t tolerated. If something feels wrong, tell an organizer and we’ll handle it.
Who this covers
Everyone who takes part in a Haxiom event or space: participants, mentors, judges, volunteers, sponsors, speakers, and organizers. It applies at in-person and online events, in our community channels and social media, and at event-related activities like team meetups.
What we expect
- Welcome people of every background, identity, and experience level. Nobody should feel like a hackathon isn’t for them.
- Assume good intent, and keep feedback constructive.
- Ask before you help with someone’s project, touch their things, or take their photo.
- Respect the venue, its staff, the equipment, and other teams’ work.
- Follow organizers’ instructions, especially about safety.
What’s not okay
- Harassment, intimidation, or discrimination based on age, race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, or experience level.
- Offensive or sexual comments, images, or jokes, including in project names, code, slides, and demos.
- Unwelcome physical contact or attention, stalking, or following someone.
- Photographing or recording people who have asked not to be.
- Repeatedly disrupting talks, workshops, judging, or other teams.
- Encouraging or covering for any of the above.
Build responsibly
- Build your project during the event, unless the event rules say otherwise.
- Don’t build or demo anything designed to harm people, systems, or data.
- Only test against systems you own or have clear permission to test.
- Respect licenses, and credit code, assets, and ideas that aren’t yours.
- Follow the law and the venue’s network rules.
Reporting a problem
If you experience or witness a violation, or have any other concern, talk to any organizer at the event or email us at our team inbox. We’ll listen, keep your report as private as we can, and act quickly.
If you feel unsafe, contact venue security or emergency services first.
What happens next
Organizers may take any action they think is appropriate. That can include a warning, removal from the event, disqualification from judging and prizes, or a ban from future Haxiom events. When needed, we’ll involve venue security or law enforcement.
